FRIDAY, 21/08 12:30 BENITA ROSE (United States) Nature and Nurture in the Maturation of Piano Prodigies and Composers (LR)

Benita Rose’s 2026 world concert tour features the music of Frédéric Chopin and Tomasz Kowalczyk in a program entitled Two Poles: The Best of Poland, Past and Present.

The program also draws on her latest album, Pure Magic: Benita Rose Plays Tomasz Kowalczyk.

A few days before Christmas 2025, Benita Rose received, via Facebook Messenger, the score of Tomasz Kowalczyk’s Romanticism of Psychedelic Customs, a work dedicated

to her by the composer. Having long admired Kowalczyk’s music, she began practicing it immediately, soon sharing her performance on YouTube and receiving the composer’s highest praise.

This encounter led her to explore Kowalczyk’s other works more deeply. She discovered music that ventures into emotional territories where few composers dare to go. Kowalczyk is unafraid of life’s darkest crevices, yet his music is also punctuated by what might be heard as halos of light. His distinctive compositional voice speaks to human vulnerability in places seemingly devoid of light, while allowing hope to remain present.

The presentation invites listeners to open their hearts and minds to the expressive possibilities of the pianistic palette through Kowalczyk’s music.

Prolific Polish composer and virtuoso pianist Tomasz Kowalczyk (b. 1990) has released more than 30 albums and created recordings across multiple genres, including piano, vocal, film and alternative electronic music. His distinctive sound has gained recognition through social media platforms, where listeners identify his unique timbres and musical language. Kowalczyk has also appeared internationally, including on Polish television programmes and Moving Classics TV, where he was featured as “Composer of the Week”.

He is also known for his collaborations with artist Maciej Ciszek.

,,New Curiosites of Music”

FOREWORD

I often hear that my work is marked by the name of Neosymbolism. It is not a seal I have applied to myself in advance, but rather an echo that I find in the labyrinths of my own soul. For me, Neosymbolism is not merely an academic, cold thesis. It is a burning, almost physical longing for the unsaid—an escape from the dense, exhausted matter of language and sound that too insistently demands a simple, one-dimensional truth.

I do not call upon the shadows of the past century. My mission is rather to rekindle the primal fire of the Symbol—that spark which strikes directly at the core of the subconscious, forcing a quiet, intuitive decoding. I want to open a gate in every listener and reader to their most intimate, yet unknown garden of meanings. I seek the crystalline abstractness of the symbol—the ability to detach from the sensory shell of the world in order to capture and reveal what is most important: the pure essence of phenomena, the fleeting nature of thought, and the infinity of spiritual content.

I dedicate to you in this sheet music book all my reminiscences, impressions, and primal desires enchanted in piano sound.

Exclusive Interview: Tomasz Kowalczyk

13 /2025 May

Written By Iain Johnson

AMBASADORIA isn’t your typical album. It’s a glitch in the emotional matrix. A sonic novella whispered across timelines. It’s as if Tomasz Kowalczyk cracked open a parallel universe, invited a few ghosts from childhood dreams, late-night existential spirals, and inner monologues, and let them all jam out in cosmic duets.

Unknown people of Leszno – Tomasz Kowalczyk

Tomasz Kowalczyk is a remarkable figure – composer, pianist, and poet. He’s a Leszno resident by birth and choice. Well-known and respected in Poland, and in his hometown of Leszno? Perhaps you know him. Perhaps you’ve seen him on Teleexpress? Or perhaps you’ve heard him on the radio? If not, it’s high time you met him.

Questions from Tomasz Kowalczyk

Your music often guides listeners into meditative or hypnagogic states — yet you don’t rely on traditional tools like binaural beats. What compositional elements do you find most effective for shifting perception or calming the nervous system?

RR: First of all: I don’t think “binaural beats” are traditional tools at all, but…

BOLESŁAW SCRATCHED FROM THE WALL

The title, write it down and paint it, is as appropriate as the aforementioned wall, which I was thrown against with enormous force by the expression and energy of the latest musical production by Tomasz Kowalczyk from Leszno.

Molecular romanticism…

It’s hard not to mention three specialists in artistic presentation: Grzegorz Rombel, Grzegorz Kochaniec, and Maciej CISZEK, who created the album covers. Their expressiveness and meticulously crafted lines, combined with incredible imagination and vision, shape and express the visual impact of the works designed and executed for Tomasz. Salvador Dali would have been surprised…
